01 Services

Landscaping, cleanouts, and drainage in Belleville, MI

Most yards need more than one thing. Rather than send you to three different contractors, we do the removal, the hauling, the planting, and the water work in one visit.

Landscaping

Mulch, edging & bed rehab

Clean spade edge, weeds pulled to the root, shrubs shaped, and mulch laid at the right depth — not piled against the trunks. Includes plant and shrub installs when a bed needs filling back in.

Removal

Overgrowth & brush removal

Hedges reclaimed from the inside out, volunteer trees and sumac cut back, dead shrubs pulled, small trees dropped, and stumps pulled where we can get to them.

Hauling

Junk & debris hauling

Brush piles, old landscape timbers, broken fencing, dumped fill, and the yard waste from our own work. It leaves on the trailer the same day — you don’t get a pile left behind for the next guy.

Drainage

French drains & downspout lines

Trench, filter fabric, washed stone, and 4″ perforated pipe pitched to daylight. Buried downspout extensions out to a pop-up emitter to get roof water off the foundation.

Hardscape

Walkways, patios & walls

Pavers and block set on a compacted base with edge restraint and polymeric sand, so it doesn’t sink or spread apart after three Michigan winters. Steps and small retaining walls included.

Upkeep

Cleanups & ongoing maintenance

Spring and fall cleanups, leaf removal, and grading out low spots. A small number of monthly maintenance properties so regular clients get real attention instead of a five-minute stop.

Side yard bed dug out and re-mulched

Job 02Belleville, MIWeed removal + black mulch

The bed had taken the patio with it. Everything came out to the root, the bed line was re-cut, and it went back down in black mulch. The homeowner got their seating area back.

Front bed cleared, maple opened up, fresh mulch

Job 03Belleville, MIShrub removal + stone border reset

Overgrown shrubs were hiding the maple and the front of the house. We pulled them, kept what was worth keeping, re-set the stone border, and mulched to the walk.

03 Process

How a job goes

Four steps, no surprises, and nothing gets cut or dug until you’ve seen the number in writing.

01

Call, text, or send photos

Tell us what you’re looking at. Photos are usually enough for a ballpark on removal and mulch work. For drainage, pictures taken during or right after a storm are worth more than anything else you can send.

02

Walkthrough and a written quote

We walk the property, agree on what stays and what goes, and put the scope, materials, and price in writing. Estimates are free and there’s no pressure to book.

03

The work — and the haul-off

Removal, digging, and installation happen on the agreed day. Anything excavated is dug after a MISS DIG 811 locate, as Michigan law requires. Brush, spoil, and old material go out on the trailer that day.

04

Walkthrough and cleanup

We blow down the drive and walks, walk the finished work with you, and fix anything that isn’t right. You approve it before you pay.

04 Pricing

05 About

Who’s actually showing up

Behrendt Lawn & Drainage is run by Wyatt Behrendt out of Belleville. I grew up on a farm here, earned Eagle Scout, and I do the work myself — no sales rep, no call center, no crew you’ve never met pulling into the driveway.

The other half of my week is spent as a power plant operator, which sounds unrelated until you’ve watched somebody install a drain with no fall in it or mulch a bed over six inches of weeds. Doing it to spec the first time is the whole job. Every excavation gets a MISS DIG 811 ticket, every quote is in writing, and if something isn’t right when we walk it at the end, it gets fixed before I invoice you.

Small outfit, local phone number, my name on the truck. If something fails, you know exactly whose door to knock on.

07 Questions

Questions we get every week

Do you haul away everything you cut and pull?

Yes, and it goes the same day. Brush, shrub stumps, old timbers, fencing, and the spoil from any digging all leave on the trailer. You should not be looking at a pile in your side yard a week after the job. We also take on haul-off by itself if you already cleared it and just need it gone.

How much does a French drain cost in Belleville?

Most residential French drains run between $1,200 and $4,500. Price comes down to trench length, how deep the pipe has to sit to keep fall, whether a machine can reach the area or it has to be dug by hand, and how far the water has to travel to reach a legal outlet. A short run along one side of a house is a very different job than a 100-foot line across a fenced back yard.

Do you call MISS DIG before digging?

Always. A MISS DIG 811 locate ticket is filed on every excavation and we wait out the required period before breaking ground so gas, electric, water, and communications get marked first. It’s the law in Michigan and it’s the difference between a routine day and a very expensive one.

My beds are completely overgrown. Is that too far gone?

Almost never. Most of the yards we photograph looked unrecoverable to the homeowner and came back in a day. We pull to the root instead of shearing the tops off, keep whatever is worth keeping, re-cut the bed line, and mulch. The plants that stay usually look better than they have in years once they aren’t competing.

Is my lawn going to be destroyed by a drain install?

There will be a visible trench line for a few weeks, and we won’t pretend otherwise. Sod is cut and set aside where it can be saved, spoil is hauled off instead of spread around, and the trench is backfilled and topped so it sits flush once it settles. By the next mowing season you generally can’t tell where it ran.

How soon can you come look at it?

Usually within a few days for an estimate. Call or text 734-882-0775 with your address and a couple of photos. Spring and fall book up fastest, so if it’s something you want done this season it pays to call early.

What areas do you serve?

Belleville and roughly a ten-mile radius: Van Buren Township, Sumpter Township, Ypsilanti and Ypsilanti Township, Canton, Romulus, New Boston, Willis, Augusta Township, Huron Township, and Rawsonville. If you’re a little further out, ask — larger projects are often worth the drive.
